If It Doesn’t Include God, Then Is It Good?

by Desert Rose

Teach them while they are young, teach them while they are young................................

This was the message that God kept giving me from my beginnings. This is how He wanted me to help children, His children.

So here is part of my story about "Teach them in the way that they should go and they will return to it". Unfortunately, it is a sad story, but it does have a happy ending.

In Sunday School they taught me Bible Stories and then they told stories about Jesus. I say this as separate, because when I heard the stories about Jesus, my heart was changed. Jesus was unlike anyone else. Jesus was special.

So I spent my first eight years of schooling in a Christian school. The amazing thing was that, this Christian school did not use a Bible based curriculum. It was at this school that I had my first exposure to drugs and fear of men. Now I am not saying that if the school had used a Bible based education I would not have had this exposure, I am saying that without a Bible based education, I was not equipped to understand or deal with what I was exposed to.

Next I convinced my parents to send me to a public middle school. I had been in the Christian school with 12 students in my class and my parents were going to send me to a public high school and I wouldn’t know anyone. I was hoping to meet some peers in a smaller environment.

So I went to the public middle school. It was there that I got my first exposure to sex and suicide.

In high school I learned how to get straight A’s without learning a thing. I already knew how to read, write and do math. So I paid attention long enough to get A’s on the test and then immediately forgot the information and got on with my life. To keep the brighter students from getting bored, they gave us a semester of teaching skills and then put us in the elementary schools as team student teachers. When we got to the classrooms, the teacher would introduce us and then leave to have coffee. This was where I got my first exposure to what people think is important and it wasn’t God that they thought was important.

After many years of being unfocused, I finally decided to get a college degree in teaching. So I have been working with children since I was 16 years old.

What I found during this time, was that God gave me a compassionate heart and so I spent a lot of time listening to the heartaches of all of my students, family and friends. Even my degree was for teaching the emotionally handicapped.

But no matter how hard I tried, there was no helping anyone. Without God, they would be lost.

I did not have the education I needed to help them. I could lead them to Christ, but once they had found Him, they needed to be able to trust Him. You cannot trust someone you do not know. You cannot love someone you do not know. I didn’t have a Bible based education, they didn’t have a Bible education, so we all stumbled in the dark.

So God said to me, "Do you really want help for yourself and others?"

I said, "Yes!"

So now I am fifty and I am finally getting the education I never got. I am finally getting the only education that will help me in paradise as well as on earth.

I can now feel good about my message to my children, "If it doesn’t include God, then it is not good." There is only One that is good. There is only One that is the source of all love.

What message are you giving your children? Are you telling your children that it is OK to get an education that makes a point of excluding God?

For me there is only one truth and it comes from the Book that God gave us, so that we could know Him, therefore learn to trust and love Him.

Do you want Jesus to say to you or your children, "I forgave you, but you never bothered to truly get to know me or trust me or love me"?

Don’t have your children wait until they are out of school to learn about how Jesus is in every reading, writing and arithmetic lesson.

We just finished reading a book about Mary Slessor. She was a Scottish missionary that took the Bible to Africa and started schools where she taught what the natives called, "The Jesus Book".

Because this story is based on a true story, we learned about geography, history, world culture, the importance of the Bible, all while improving our reading skills.

So is your education keeping you from trusting and loving God with all of your mind and all of you heart?

Then do something about it!

Get a real education, one based on the Truths of God, not the lies of this world. I am fifty and it was never too late for me and it isn’t too late for you. Then you can teach your children in the way that they should go and they will equipped for all the horrors of this world. The Bible does not shelter us from the horrors of this world. Read it and you will find all kinds of horror stories that God warns us with.

God wants you to have a Bible based education and if you don’t know this, then you haven’t read all of your Bible.

This article is dedicated to our Lord Jesus Christ, the Immanuel, who is "God with us".
