Succeeding at Men’s Ministry in the Local Church

Introduction

The purpose of this study is to describe seven things that are essential for an effective prayer life.  Consider your prayer life to be like running a race with me as your coach.  As your coach, I would share with you the skills to become a champion runner.  I would tell you how to eat properly, breath properly, exercise properly, etc.  However, unless you practiced these techniques and skills they would not be of benefit to you.  The same is true in the realm of prayer – no one can run the race for you!  As your prayer coach, allow me to share the following effects of prayer in order to motivate you to run to win!

NKJ 1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize?  Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

Eight Prayer Effects:

    1. Reveals yourself to you.  The result is that you can then submit the unrighteous areas to God for cleaning.
    2.

NKJ Isaiah 6:1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.

5 So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts."

    3. Provides the power to cleanse our hearts from unrighteousness (sin).
    4.

NKJ Psalm 19:12 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.

NKJ 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

    5. Provides the power to hold us up.
    6.

NKJ Psalm 17:5 Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip.

    7. Provides the power to govern our tongue.
    8.

NKJ Psalm 141:3 Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.

    9. Provides the power to open our eyes.
    10.

NKJ Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.

    11. Provides the power to obtain wisdom.
    12.

NKJ James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

    13. Provides power to be a witness.
    14.

NKJ Psalm 62:11 God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.

NKJ Acts 1:8 "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

    15. Prepares the soil of our heart for the seed of God’s Word.

NKJ Hosea 10:12 Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

Furthermore, the failure to pray is a sin.

NKJ 1 Samuel 12:23 "Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way.

NKJ James 4:17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
