There are many ways to study the Bible, some
of which we will talk about later. The most important thing you
need to remember is that to find out what the Bible says, you need
to read it yourself in a way that will help you understand:
1. What it says
2. What it means
3. How to apply it to your life
The best way to do this is through a process called
inductive study. Inductive study doesn’t tell you what the
Bible means or what you should believe. Instead, it teaches you
a method of studying God’s Word that can be applied to any
portion of Scripture at any time for the rest of your life.
STEP #3: APPLICATION
Application answers the question: What should I do?
1. Is there a command to obey?
2. Is there a sin to avoid?
3. Is there a promise to claim?
4. Is there an example to follow?
5. How can I put the lesson/principle into practice?
Application is concerned with how does the meaning of this passage
apply to you. Usually this is the first thing we want to know
when we read the Bible, but proper application actually begins
with belief, then results in being and doing.
We may understand what God’s Word says, but unless we apply
and live this truth out in our life, it is of no value. Once you
know what a passage means, you are not only responsible for putting
it into practice in your own life, but accountable if you don’t!
It must show up in your attitudes, actions, and relationships.
The main goal of personal Bible study is a changed life and a
constant active relationship with Jesus Christ.
