Day 40
Read: Isaiah 40:31
“And they
returned, and prepared spices and oint-
ments;
and they rested the Sabbath day according
to the
commandment.”
From Friday night to Sunday morning
they waited.
They thought they were waiting
to
finish anointing the corpse.
But they were actually waiting for
something else:
....for the promise which they had
heard but never understood.
“And the third day he shall
rise again.”
They rested.
The body of the
Lord rested while His Spirit
preached to the
imprisoned spirits in the region
of the dead.
And now we must
learn how to rest and wait with
our hearts patiently
fixed upon God
until we are visited by the Spirit of
the
Father which quickened the Lord’s
body in the tomb
and the Spirit of the Son who quickened
the disciples to eternal faith by
showing Himself alive to them again.
I wait for the
Lord, my soul doth wait
And in His word
do I hope.
My soul waiteth
for the Lord
More than they
that watch for the morning, I say,
More than they
that watch for the morning.
