Day 18            Read: John 12:20—26
         
         People seem to want security these days at any
         price.
         
             But is it security that you want?
         
             If you could take a pill that would secure
             you exactly as you are this moment--so that
             you’d stay that way forever, would you take
             it?
         
                  The people who took that pill would
                  soon be crying as men will be crying
                  in Hell--”If only I could die!”
         
         If you want to find Hell, then let the goal of
         your life be security.
         
         If you want to find Heaven, then let the goal of
         your life be sacrifice.
         
             “Hereby perceive we the love of God,
              because He laid down His life for us
              and we ought to lay down our lives
              for the brethren.”
         
              Let the world go on scrambling after
              security.
         
              But now that you belong to Jesus Christ
              you are no longer anxiously trying to
              keep what you have,
                  
              you are joyfully offering it up
                               laying it down
                               giving it away
                               pouring it out
         
              Don’t be afraid to spend yourself.
              That’s what you’re here for if you
              belong to Jesus Christ.
